RECOMMENDED LAUNDRY PRODUCTS
Choose a natural laundry product for best results & to prolong the life of linen as well as other natural fibres. Avoid products containing bleaches & optical whiteners which tend to attack & degrade natural plant fibres. Remarkably, laundry products don’t have to list their ingredients so look for brands with eco-credentials such as Ecover, Lilly’s and Bio D. Consider Soap Nuts for one of the most environmentally friendly, gentle & cost effective alternatives to regular detergent – find out more here.
WASHING NEW PRODUCTS
Like any absorbent product, such as a bath towel, linen will soften & become more absorbent after its first washing. Washing new products intended for household use to ‘break them in’ is a good idea. If you're framing, it's better not to wash to avoid potential creases.
Hand or machine wash at around 30˚C. White linen products should be washed separately.
If required, products will withstand a hot 60˚C machine wash occasionally. The printed areas will fade a little, but it is not an unpleasant effect.
Avoid tumble drying because linen will bunch up & be difficult to iron. For best results line dry or dry flat/folded in two over a radiator or oven handle.
If required, iron slightly damp
STORAGE FOR PROLONGED PERIODS
If they’re likely to be packed away for a year or two take the usual precautions recommended for any natural fabric – use a ‘shrink wrap’ vacuum storage bag and/or store with natural moth repellents such as cedar & lavender.
